Welcome to my Yarn Shop Travel Series!
I love visiting local yarn stores wherever I go—they’re full of creativity, community, and inspiration. In this series, I’m sharing some of my favorite stops to help you discover new places to shop, stitch, and support small businesses. Each shop has its own unique personality, and I hope this encourages you to explore and connect with the amazing fiber world beyond your hometown!
The Bear & Fox Yarn Den in Allegan

If you’re heading toward southwest Michigan, I’ve got a yarn stop you’ll definitely want to add to your list: The Bear & Fox Yarn Den in Allegan, Michigan. I popped in on a quiet Friday afternoon in July, and it was the perfect blend of cozy, colorful, and personality.
A Shop that Feels Like a Treasure Hunt

From the moment I walked in, I could tell this shop has BIG heart. The layout was clever and inviting, with fun displays that pulled me through the space like a little fiber adventure. Around every corner was something to discover—bold colors, clever themes and lots of fun!
There’s a distinct masculine, nerdy charm to the vibe, with subtle nods to Harry Potter and other fandoms. You really get the sense that this place reflects its owners in the best possible way—which, as a fellow yarn shop owner, I love seeing.
Yarn Finds & Maker Chat

I had a great time chatting with the owners, along with a few makers who were hanging out on the comfy couch at the front of the shop. The team recently converted a back room into a comfy maker lounge, complete with lots of seating and coffee—how great is that?
They have a lovely hand-dyed yarn line of tonals that’s gorgeous. I also spotted a bold and brilliant new-to-me brand called Punk Rock Unicorn, dyed by a tattoo artist—super vivid and unique. Of course, I couldn’t leave empty-handed and picked up two skeins of Araucania Sock Twilight Paints for my new cast-on: a Ranunculus sweater!
Every Yarn Shop Tells a Story

What I love most about visiting yarn stores like The Bear & Fox Yarn Den is that each one is completely different. Just like Tink & The Frog reflects my voice and values, this shop is unmistakably theirs. From layout to vibe to yarn selection, it’s a reminder of how important it is to support local shops—because they’re all unique little gems that make our fiber community shine.
So if you’re ever on the west side of Michigan, make sure to swing through Allegan. Pick up some yarn, sip a coffee on the couch, and say hello. I think you’ll leave smiling—just like I did. 💚
